Electrochem Seminar- Miniature Automated Coating/Drying Line For Process Studies

Abstract

Electrode fabrication at industrial scales is often performed very differently than at lab scales. Unfortunately, it is generally very difficult to apply lab instruments to study manufacturing processes on industrial equipment. To bridge this gap, the Berkeley Lab roll-to-roll manufacturing team is developing a miniature automated coating/drying line that will be capable of recreating industrially-relevant processing conditions, but which is designed for integration with instruments for observing dynamic processes, such as our newly-installed confocal microscope and the ALS hard X-ray microtomography/radiography beamline. We will use information from these observations as inputs for the processing models that we are developing. In this talk, I will describe some of our current and upcoming experimental capabilities.
