Electrochem Seminar - Single-crystal LiNi8Mn1Co1O2 cathodes for extreme fast charging

Abstract

Ni-rich layered oxide cathodes have attracted the most attention due to their high energy density and low cost. To overcome the particle cracking issues in polycrystals, single crystals are considered as an attractive alternative. Currently, most studies on single crystals focus on irregular shape without optimizing surface orientation. Although theory has predicted a strong dependence of material stability on surface facets, experimental understanding is still lacking. To bridge this gap, I present two facile synthesis routes to achieve the Ni-rich LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 (NMC811) with different morphology and facets. Their electrochemical performance for fast charging will be discussed.
