Dr. Eric Hoek is a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Samueli Engineering School, and is a faculty member of the UCLA Institute of the Environment & Sustainability and the UCLA California NanoSystems Institute.  Dr. Hoek leads the UCLA Nanomaterials & Membrane Technology Research (NanoMeTeR) Lab where research explores the union of membrane technologies, nanomaterials and electrochemistry for water, energy and environmental applications.  According to Google Scholar, Dr. Hoek has over 200 scientific publications with over 25,000 citations, including over 70 patents filed globally.  Dr. Hoek was co-Editor-in-Chief of The Encyclopedia of Membrane Science and Technology and has edited books on Produced Water Management and Sustainable Desalination and Water Reuse.  Dr. Hoek co-founded several technology startups (NanoH2O, Water Planet, PolyCera Membranes, IntelliFlux Controls, MembranePRO Services, Pacifica Water) and serves as an advisor to a number of technology companies, non-profits and venture funds. At UCLA, Dr. Hoek also serves as the Faculty Director of the UCLA Sustainable LA Grand Challenge, which is a campus-wide initiative and partnership with Los Angeles to help LA become the world’s most sustainable megacity by 2050.
